[2003] Certainly, the Bortolusso winery ranks first in the Annia Doc, the youngest Doc of Friuli (created in 1995), that includes the areas of Marano Lagunare, Carlino and Bagnaria Arsa. Both the owners Sergio and Clara Bortolusso and their expert oeonologist, Luigino De Giuseppe, are convinced that working for quality means to limit production, increase the vineyard density and pay the utmost care to all wine-making activities. Since many years their superior quality wines are comparable to the most prestigious Doc wines of the Friuli region. Although 60% of the 38 hectares are of red varieties, the Bortolusso winery has the best results with white wines, Pinot Grigio in particular whose production is obtained

from 2,5 kilogrammes of grapes per plant. Pinot Grigio has the solarity of the mediterranean character with inviting citrus fruit and fruit salad fragrances. It feels fat, wide and franc in the mouth with a very attractive long fruity finish. Among wines with one glass, Pinot Bianco and Malvasia are making a high score: Pinot Bianco for intense ripe fruit scents and Malvasia, definitely impressive, for the perfectly come out contrast between green notes and aromatic scents, and dry citric finish. A good start for Merlot Privilege 2000. Matured in tonneaux (a type of barrel) for one year, it is particularly appreciated for fair complexity, forest fruit and cinnamon scents.
